ok so my 92 325i is leaking coolant into my oil from somewhere internally. i was wondering if anyone knows if these motors have this problem alot, and if anyone has a good idea on where exactly it might be leaking in there. i had a hydrocarbon test done on the coolant in the rad, and it was clean so i know the head is fine.. I am also wondering if anyone has a used m50 motor for sale, or knows where i could buy a re built one?? I just bought this car, ive owned an e21 an e30 and now this e36 and i love this car... i just need to get it fixxed up a bit.

ok so one more question... after doing some more research ive found the 6 cyl 5 series has an m50 motor as well. is this motor same mounts, same gear ratio's? because ive found someone sellin a m50 e36 motor with 200k for 350, and a m50 525 motor with 160k for 300. so if i can do it oviosuly i want to take the lower mileage lower price motor...

Make sure you get the correct engine for your car, or else it won't even work. The 92 325 you have is probably non vanos, so you don't want to get a 325 engine from 93 and on, as it has vanos and is not interchangeable with yours. A 525 most likely will work, however, the oil pan and sump lines will have to be changed as they won't fit.

If you do end up getting the 525 engine, and switching the oil pan/sump lines, you can give those pieces to me :p

you could upgrade to a vanos motor ( Vanos is variable valve timing ) but you'll need other parts as well, like a different ecu, posibly wire harness ect.

hell you can even but a 2.8 in with a ODB1 conversion

The only thing the non vanos motor is good for is boost, take the upgrade if you can.

I bought a non Vanos 2.5 with 230k for 400 bucks. It does have somewhat high mileage, but as long as it runs and doesnt loose coolant I'll be happy! Im picking the motor up from Filip near the end of next week!

call chucks auto, and also simply cars to see what they have as well

make sure what ever you get has a compresion check and a leakdown if possible.

try and replace what ever seals you can B4 you install it, and since you have the tranny accessable look at the input and output seals while you have the chance
